Best Paint Colours for Manitoba Homes in 2026

Choosing paint colours is one of the most personal decisions in any renovation - and in Manitoba, the light we live with makes it a bit different than picking colours in Toronto or Vancouver. Our long winters, low sun angles, and brilliantly bright summers all affect how colour reads on your walls.

Trending Colours for 2026

The major paint manufacturers have spoken, and 2026 is leaning into warm, grounded tones with bold accents. Benjamin Moore's Colour of the Year leans toward earthy terracotta tones, while Sherwin-Williams has pushed into rich, saturated greens. Both directions work beautifully in Manitoba homes.

Here's what we're seeing in Winnipeg specifically:

  • Warm whites and creams - Still the most requested base. They feel cozy in winter without looking dingy. Look at Benjamin Moore's White Dove or Simply White.
  • Deep greens - Forest and sage greens are everywhere right now. They pair perfectly with Manitoba's natural landscape and bring the outdoors in during those long winter months.
  • Warm greys with undertones - Pure grey is fading out. Greige (grey-beige) and warm taupe are taking over, especially in open-concept main floors.
  • Bold accent walls - Navy, deep teal, and charcoal are popular for feature walls in bedrooms and offices.

How Manitoba Light Affects Colour

Here's something most colour guides don't mention: Winnipeg sits at 49 degrees north latitude. In winter, our sun stays low on the horizon, casting a warm golden light through south-facing windows and very little direct light from the north. In summer, we get 16+ hours of bright, high-angle sunlight.

What this means for your colour choices:

  • North-facing rooms feel cooler and darker. Warm undertones (cream, blush, warm grey) prevent them from feeling cold. Avoid pure whites - they'll look blue-grey.
  • South-facing rooms get warm, golden light most of the year. Cool colours (blues, greens, cool greys) balance beautifully here.
  • Test in winter light. A colour that looks perfect in July can feel completely different in December. Always test paint samples and look at them at different times of day.

Colours That Work for Resale

According to the Canadian Real Estate Association, neutral interiors consistently help homes sell faster. If you're painting with resale in mind, stick to warm whites, light greiges, and soft blues. Bold colours in small doses (an accent wall, a powder room) add personality without turning off buyers.
